Central MA Winter Family Fun!

There are so many fun family things do in winter in Central MA! We’ve taken our favorites and put them together for you. And wintertime in New England offers many opportunities to have some safe family fun – even during a pandemic. Let’s get outside!

Central MA Winter Family Fun

Winterfest at OBC:  On January 29-30, head on over to OBC in Brookfield for sleigh rides, dog mushing, live music, bonfires, sledding and more!

Wild about Winter: Wild about Winter comes back to the EcoTarium on January 29-30! Free with regular museum admission.  Get your tix here.

Winter Fun Days at Fruitlands! Every Saturday and Sunday through March 13, Fruitlands holds their Winter Fun Days. Sledding, Snowshoeing, Scavenger Hunts, Fire pit rentals (with smore’s) and so much more!

Owl Prowl: There are 3 upcoming owl prowls for families. January 15, January 21, and February 19. Sign up before they are full!

Backyard & Beyond at Discovery Museum:  Every Sunday morning they do a nature-based activity based on the weather and season, either in Discovery Woods or out on the adjacent conservation land. All ages are welcome but activities are designed for 2-6 year olds. Stay and explore the amazing treehouse after the event!

Tower Hill Garden Buds (Ages 3-5): This program meets on Thursday mornings and is held indoors and out. Each week is a different nature topic. Sign up for 1 week or all!

Winter Weekends on the Farm: Sundays at Good Pickin Farm from 12-4. Sledding, Ice Skating, Snowshoeing, Petting Zoo, Crafts, Hayrides, Bonfires & Concessions! $10/person or $60 family max. BYO Sleds, Ice Skates & Snowshoes. Through March 13.

Winter Events at Chestnut Hill Farm: Private Firepit Rentals, Reindeer Quest, Storywalks and more!

Go Snow Tubing!  Central MA has two local parks for snow tubing!

Snow Shoeing: Check out the 2 local MA Audubon sites that offer rentals and beautiful trails! The snow covered property is so beautiful in the winter!

Sleigh Rides: The snow is here.  Sleigh Rides are a wonderful way to make fun winter family memories.

StoryWalk: Check out the January Story Walk in Shrewsbury at Lake Street Park.  The book changes each month! January features A Sled for Gebo.

Fireplace Feasts: Sign up for an incredible feast that you help prepare with sleigh rides and cooking demos. They take place at Salem Cross Inn on select dates throughout the winter.

Outdoor Ice Skating: Worcester Common Oval and The Common in Barre (select Sundays) offer outdoor skating!

Worth the Trip

Central MA doesn’t have all the fun winter things! We have added a couple noteworthy family fun things outside Central MA:

Roger Williams Park Zoo: Take a quick drive to RWP Zoo for their half price admission through February!

Ice Castles: In N Woodstock NH. We recommend a day trip during February school vacation week.
