Where was WCKC this Week?

Where was WCKC This Week? July 11 – July 17

Where in Central MA was WCKC This Week: This series will feature what we did this week, tips & tricks, what we enjoyed, what was a miss and more. We hope this will help you find places to go in Central MA this summer! (And yes the title of the series is meant to be sung to the tune of “Where in the World is Carmen San Diego”). We will include anything that we think is family-friendly and fun in the area or within a drivable distance to Worcester, MA.

Wachusett Meadow Audubon Nature Camp

My seven year old Emma enjoyed a week long camp at Wachusett Meadow in Princeton this past week. Emma loves nature and hiking, so this is one of her favorite camps to attend. And she came home with lots of stories about the wildlife they saw and talked about at camp as well as the games she played and the friends she made. She did this camp last year, and I know she will be begging to do it again next year as well. Every day she came home tired, dirty, and with lots of fun stories to share about her day. I call that a big success!

Davis Farmland

wckc this week davis farmlandMy younger daughter enjoyed a mommy/daughter solo day at Davis Farmland. Being four, her favorite parts were the Moo Town village for pretend and creative play as well as the jump pad and bounce house. I think she would have spent hours on the jump pad had I not encouraged her to move on.

The hayride and pony ride are big hits with both my kids. But we had never watched the reptile show. Riley was enthralled with the reptile show. It was very informative but also full of laughs and squeals as large reptiles were taken out for show and tell. We really enjoyed this, and I know we will be making an effort to attend that show again. The reptile show is daily at 11:30 and 3 over the summer.

Lilac Hedge Farm for Ice Cream & Live Music

wckc this week lilac hedgeThis was only our second visit to Lilac Hedge Farm, and it was such a treat that I said we had to come back weekly. We enjoyed delicious ice cream (Riley recommends the blue Cookie Monster ice cream). Then we walked around the grounds of the farm to visit the Emus, pigs, donkeys and other farm animals.

While the kids played on the small playground, my husband enjoyed a local Seven Saws beer. And we listened to live music. They also have cocktails and wine slushies – yum! Next time, I am going to go before dinner and order some of the yummy looking food they serve as well. Their menu includes items like hot dogs, pizzas, and burgers.

It was a perfect low key Saturday family outing. Also, they have lots of upcoming family events like family movie nights

Wachusett Community Connections Program at Gale Free Library

We stopped at Gale Free Library in Holden and we saw an awesome preschool program going on with sensory bins.  And Riley had a great time exploring the sensory bins and doing a scavenger hunt for different items in the bins. Wachusett CFCE is a grant funded program with lots of great events for preschool age children and their parents. It operates in and  serves nine towns in the area. If you are interested, other local CFCEs are active in other areas of the region also.
