Make a joyful noise with the Joy of Music Program (JOMP) this fall! In addition to private lessons, JOMP offers an array of classical and jazz ensembles, creative workshops, and early childhood classes throughout the year. It is always a great time to try something new, or delve deeper via their intensive programs.

You are invited to their open house on Saturday September 9; 10am – 1pm.

Current JOMP Offerings

Baby JOMP
Infant – Age 2
Begins: October 4
Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 9:15am

Tiny Jompers musically wiggle, wriggle, and giggle in these first-step classes. Songs, finger play, movement, bouncing, scarves and props, shakers, and percussion instruments create a joyful bonding experience. Class includes materials to help reinforce learning at home. For babies to toddlers with a caregiver.

Tot JOMP
Ages 3-4
Begins: October 4
Wednesdays (3:15pm), Fridays (3:45pm) and Saturdays at 10am

Jompers musically explore their world through multicultural melodies, songs, rhythms, patterns, instrument-play, improvisation, and movement. Pre-reading music notation and vocabulary is introduced. For ages 3-4 with a caregiver.

Meet the Instruments
Ages 5-6
Begins: October 5
Thursday (3:45pm) Saturdays at 11am

A creative, immersive class designed to introduce the instrument families through interactive music activities, instrument demonstrations and listening. The 15-week course guides Jompers through 3-week explorations of each family (percussion, keyboard, strings, woodwinds, and brass). Students will learn basics of instruments (provided by JOMP) as well as receive live demonstrations from JOMP faculty. In addition, fundamentals of music including music and rhythmic notation, dynamics, timbre, elements of ensemble and more are explored. At the end of the 15-week, recommendation for group or individual lessons will be made based on student interest.

Sing & Sway
Infant – Age 4
Begins: October 3
Tuesdays at 10am

This fun-filled class utilizes creative movement, improvisation, rhythm games and more while encouraging self-expression, interactional skills (with peers and adults) and body awareness. Children will enjoy moving to a variety of musical selections, including classical, R&B, jazz and big band.

Sing, Circle, Boom!
Ages 5-7
Begins: Week of September 18
Thursdays at 4:30pm

This class holistically combines singing, movement, and drumming for a unique ensemble experience. Age-appropriate songs teach the fundamentals of pitch and harmony. Movement is added to emphasize musicality and imagery of the songs. Drumming adds a joyful rhythmic component that engages children and introduces percussion.

Piano: Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays
Cello: Saturday mornings

Group Recorder and Group Ukulele
Ages 7-9

Recorder: Tuesdays at 4:30
Ukulele: Tuesdays and Saturdays

Joy of Music Program (JOMP) was founded in 1986 by Wendy Webster Ardizzone. Her vision was to create a musical community that reflects the rich diversity of the greater Worcester area. With its core of outstanding faculty of more than 40 musician educators, JOMP draws students, faculty, staff, volunteers, and donors together in a joyful community united by music education and performance. Access informs all JOMP’s programming. With a beautiful facility (a former nursing home), JOMP has created a fully accessible space for all.
