(Photo: Zoo New England) Looking for a day trip idea? Both Franklin Park Zoo & Stone Zoo in Boston, MA reopened recently to the public with Covid precautions in place. And these zoos boast amazing animal exhibits including lions, giraffes, bears, leopards and more.
Franklin Park Zoo
Indoor exhibits, including the Tropical Forest, Bird’s World buildings, Franklin barn, and brooder building OPENED with reduced capacity.
Seasonal attractions and activities cannot open at this time. These include amusement rides, giraffe feeding, budgie feeding, in-person interpretations and zookeeper chats.
Animal exhibits opened include: Tropical Animal Forest Animals, Lions, Tiger, Wattled Crane, Zebras, Bird’s World, Franklin Farm and more.
Stone Zoo
In accordance with public guidance, indoor exhibit buildings cannot be opened. This includes the indoor Animal Discovery Center. The Outdoor Safari Walk features a one-way trail through most of the Zoo’s exhibits. These include Caribbean Coast, Windows to the Wild, Yukon Creek, Himalayan Highlands.
The playground is open. And parents, guardians and other adults supervising children should monitor children at all times to ensure proper social distancing. Children and adults will also need to adhere to face covering requirements.

- Capacity is limited to allow for social distancing.
- Masks are required for all guests ages two and older.

Franklin Park Zoo & Stone Zoo both offer Animal Breakfast Zoom encounters Saturday and Sunday mornings for $20. Stay comfy in your pajamas as you ZOOm with some wild friends during their morning routine. New England Zoos take you behind the scenes to see the variety of tasty treats the animals look forward to every morning as you enjoy your own at home!
Virtual Animal Encounters offer an opportunity for a close-up view of a zoo animal. Educators will address your questions and help your group learn more about some of the charismatic creatures and the stories they have to share! But to keep encounters exclusive and personal, they limit each booking to a maximum of 15 devices logged in. Therefore, this experience is great for birthday parties, scouts, office meetings, special events and more and the experience starts at a cost of $100.
