Fee Free Fishing Weekend June 1-2

Free Freshwater Fishing Weekend!

Attention, families! Get ready to reel in some fun because Massachusetts is hosting its annual Free Freshwater Fishing Weekend on June 3 and 4! It’s the perfect opportunity to take the kids fishing and try it out for the first time. From 12 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, you can enjoy fishing in any public lake, pond, reservoir, stream, or river throughout the state.

Beyond the Free Fishing Weekend, fishing in freshwater requires a license for anglers aged 15 and older.  (Fishing licenses contribute to important initiatives like MassWildlife’s fisheries research, fish stocking programs, and angler education efforts.) You can easily get your fishing license online here.

The Quabbin Reservoir and the Wachusett Reservoir are popular fishing spots in Central Mass but a list of other locations can be found on the DCR website.

Remember, even during the Free Fishing Weekend, all other regulations, including catch limits, still apply. It’s essential to familiarize yourself with the rules before you head out on the water.

And for those who love saltwater fishing, mark your calendars for Free Saltwater Fishing Weekend on June 17–18. It’s another fantastic opportunity to enjoy a day of fishing without needing a license.

So gather your family, pack your fishing gear, and get ready to cast your lines into the beautiful waters of Massachusetts. A weekend filled with family fun and fishing adventures awaits!
