Easy Gingerbread House that’s Guaranteed not to Collapse.
Many of us have attempted gingerbread houses from fancy kits, only to witness the roof and sides collapse like a deck of cards. No more. Making your own gingerbread houses has never been easier with this low cost, low effort technique! Great for kids and adults—this activity is fun, inexpensive, and best of all…edible.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Base (such as a large paper plate or piece of cardboard)
- Small, square milk container
- Graham crackers
- White frosting (the pre-made frosting in the can works great)
- Candy decorations (i.e. mini-candy canes, M&Ms, peppermints, gumdrops, sprinkles, etc.)
- Clear packing tape
- Glue (glue guns work best)
Here’s how to make it:
- With scissors, cut the top rim off of the milk container (see photo below). Then use clear packing tape to close the top folds together to make the “roof”.
- Use Elmer’s glue or a glue gun to secure the milk container to the paper plate or base.
- Set out graham crackers for the sides of the house: four squares for each side and two ½ squares for the roof.
- Spread frosting on one side of the graham cracker and stick to each side of the milk container. Do the same for the ½ squares and attach to roof. If you are using enough frosting, this will go on easy-peasy.
- Spread frosting on the roof of the house and attach candy decorations.
- Use the frosting as “glue” to attach other candy decorations to the sides or front of the house.
Between the eating and the building, this activity is sure to keep the kids busy for a good while. Happy holidays!
