Below are some organizations located in and around Worcester and Central Massachusetts to consider exploring with your child:
MA Audubon
MA Audubon welcomes individuals, families, and groups of all ages and abilities to lend a hand at one of their wildlife sanctuaries across Massachusetts.
Wachusett Food Pantry
The Wachusett Food Pantry is 100% volunteer run, and they rely on volunteers to support their important mission. New volunteers are always welcome! Volunteers must be in ninth grade or older. See their website for more information.
Worcester Youth Center
During the afternoon hours (between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.) the WYC implements a variety after school activities. There is a need for tutoring, financial literacy instruction, mentoring, arts programming and other areas. People who are interested in volunteering should fill out an application on the website.
UGrow Worcester
Their open farm volunteer hours are a great introductory experience to work for any age. Volunteer at one of the community garden events. Sign up on the volunteer page to be apart of this organization!
Local Library
Local libraries use teen volunteers to help shelve books and maintain spaces. Check with your local library to find out about their process for hiring volunteers. The Worcester public library encourages Worcester-area teens ages 14-18 who need to earn community service hours, or who wish to help their community. For more information, visit their website.
United Way of Central Mass
Ongoing volunteer needs in a variety of spaces, this organization helps align the volunteer with the right event or project to serve the community.
Special Olympics of MA
This organization runs programs for athletes of all abilities and ages. Special Olympics believes that everyone deserves to feel valued, respected, and supported while both on the playing field and in their everyday lives. That’s why we made it our mission to build a community where individuals with and without disabilities can showcase their skills, nurture social connections, and live their best lives. Youth volunteers can sign up for appropriate opportunities on their volunteer page. Volunteers under the age of 16 are required to have an adult present during their volunteer shifts. Opportunities can be one time or recurring.
The Mustard Seed
They provide dinner each weekday from 5:00pm-6:30pm in downtown Worcester. Volunteers can arrive at 4:45pm to help setup and serve, or at 5:45pm to help clean up. They are always in need of volunteers, financial contributions, and new community members. Sign up online. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
