Art Show Opening Featuring Young Men Moving Mountains

May 2 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

‘Young Men Moving Mountains’ (YMMM) is a photography and storytelling initiative from the youth-driven mental health nonprofit The Yellow Tulip Project (YTP) which challenges perceptions of social stigma by showcasing the faces and stories of young men and gender-expansive youth who are speaking up about mental health.

Where: Worcester Airport

Opening Date Details:  May 2nd from 3pm – 4pm

When: May 2nd – June 30th

Featuring: Portraits of 5 powerful Worcester youths by photographer George Annan

“Male-identifying individuals accounted for about 80% of all suicides in 2021 – and since most mental health professionals identify as female, there’s a huge discrepancy in who is most at-risk and who is providing care.” Says Anaïs DerSimonian, YTP’s Executive Director. “That’s why we created this exhibit initiative. These powerful portraits showcase young men simultaneously being strong and bold and also vulnerable and thoughtful. In their own words, they show us that there is power in vulnerability – that there is strength in telling your story.”

The exhibit features interactive components, such as QR codes that allows viewers to listen to the model’s stories as well as the hashtag #YMMM which invites other young men to submit their own portraits and statements through social media. The hope is that the exhibit will become an ever-expanding virtual initiative, with stories and experiences from young men and gender-expansive youth from all over the country.

The Young Men Moving Mountains exhibit in Worcester was made possible by the generous support of UNUM Insurance and Worcester Regional Airport.

“We are proud to partner with The Yellow Tulip Project on this important exhibit to showcase mental health awareness,” said Worcester Regional Airport Director Andy Davis. “This display will be up through the month of June at the airport, and the community is welcome to come and experience it. We want to thank the team at the Yellow Tulip Project for developing this interactive exhibit.”
