50 Things to do this Fall in Central Mass with Kids!

Worcester is the second largest city in New England, making Central Mass a gold mine for kid-friendly things to do in the fall.  For more fall family fun, check our regular calendar of events. Please keep social distancing and mask mandates in mind while planning your family fun. And check back often, we will be updating our list!

  1. Visit the EcoTarium. The EcoTarium has reopened their outdoor and indoor spaces with new exhibits.  Currently open Fridays – Sundays. As of Oct 6, they are open Wednesdays-Sundays. And the train is back in service!
  2. Visit Purgatory Chasm for a family fall hike!
  3. Spend the day at Old Sturbridge Village and travel back in time. Interact with costumed historians and learn about life in the 19th century. They have great events throughout the year.
  4. See what is happening at Discovery Museum in Acton. Fall is a great time to burn some energy in their Treehouse and Adventure Hill. (They are closed through 9/27 due to installation of solar panels). The first Friday night of each month (4:30-7:30) are free admission.
  5. Find a new playground to explore!

  6. Get tickets to Southwick’s Zoo Festival of Illumination! It begins on 9/23.
  7. Book a fall guided trail ride in Princeton at Cornerstone Ranch!
  8. Go Apple Picking!  Find an apple orchard near you with our Apple Orchard Guide.
  9. Get lost in one of the Central MA Mazes!
  10. Davis Farmland is operating on their fall schedule through October.  Get there before the season ends!
  11. Davis Megamaze BBQ & Brews opens 10/2 on Saturdays and Sundays (Columbus Day too). Fun for the whole family! This year the maze is a “Where’s Waldo” theme!
  12. Don’t miss Tower Hill Autumn Illuminated 2021! Tickets are on sale now and they sold out last year.
  13. Go to the fair! There are fairs in Central MA every single weekend through 10/16.  See our Guide to Central MA Fairs and Festivals.
  14. Hike with Goats! With Central MA Goat Rentals in Lunenburg. Hikes are roughly 1 hour.  Wear your hiking gear.  All ages.

  16. Spend the day at West End Creamery. They have their Fall Festivals each Friday night as well as Saturdays and Sundays through mid-October. Corn maze and lots of family activities!
  17. The Wachusett Mountain BBQ FEST is September 18-19. Yum!
  18. Wachusett Mountain KidsFest runs September 25-26!
  19. The First Annual Polar Park Food Truck Festival is October 2. You don’t want to miss this one!
  20. The Brookfield Town Common Apple Country Fair is October 9!
  21. Check out American Heritage Museum World War II Reenactment Weekend October 9-10.
  22. Pumpkin Float at Boston Town Common Frog Pond – It’s Free on Oct 15!
  23. 37th Annual Apple Fest at Wachusett Mountain on October 16-17
  24. Head to Salem for a Slightly Spooky Kids Tour! (Slightly out of Central MA)
  25. Fall is a great time to experience Boundless Adventures Aerial Park in Berlin! Open through November 30.
  26. Rent Kayaks and Canoes at Nashoba Paddler Rentals through October 24.
  27. Get tickets to Wicked Wings at Tower Hill and Strike your most wicked pose! Through October.
  28. Hike the Mass Audubon trails at Broad Meadow Brook in Worcester or Wachusett Meadow in Princeton.

  30. Listen to live music at Stone Cow Brewery. Get yummy ice cream and maybe a brew. Kids will love the farm animals and playground.
  31. Trunk or Treat in Charlton on 10/24!
  32. Visit the barnyard friends at Greenhill Park!
  33. Don’t miss Hillando’s Haunted Halloween Maze! It’s free but donations appreciated.
  34. Check out Moore State Park in Paxton.
  35. Rock House Reservation – One of our favorite hikes!
  36. The Holidays are coming. (Anybody else getting a jump start?) Support a local book or toy store. 
  37. See a Railers Game at the DCU Center! They have 3 promo nights this fall.
  38. The Stowe Farm in Millbury has fall festivals every weekend for the season!
  39. Visit the Worcester Holiday Display for a Halloween light show.  Begins 9/24 and runs nightly at dusk.
  40. Get tickets to Witch’s Woods Haunted Hayride.  If you dare.
  41. Looking for stroller or bike friendly hikes this fall?  See our list here and try somewhere new!
  42. Haven’t dined at Davis BBQ yet? It’s a great place for a yummy family meal and a chance to see a small collection of the Davis Farmland animals in the attached animal barn.
  43. We love Honey Pot Orchards located in Stowe. With lots of family friendly things to do including 3 mazes, we feel it’s worth the trip.  Just outside Central MA.
  44. Head to the orchards for PYO Pumpkins!  Here is where you can go locally.
  45. Hanson’s Farm has a sunflower maze, opens early October. Their apple cider donut sundaes are a must!
  46. Get your tickets for the 2nd annual OSV Phantoms & Fire beginning 10/13!
  47. The Forest of Fear Haunted Hayride in Grafton is back.  October 22 & 23!
  48. Fay School in Southboro has fun fall activities for kids at their farmers markets. Saturdays 9/18- 10/23, no market on 10/9. Superhero training, themed crafts, yoga, halloween parade and more!
  49. Chestnut Hill Farm has some neat fall events like a harvest moon hike, preschool farmer explorer days, and more.
  50. Already missing summer vacations? Get a day pass to Great Wolf Lodge for some water fun and pretend like it is summer all over again.
